What may take place about us,
We scarcely hear or see;
May these go on without us;
No idle dreams have we.
Eternal is our goal;
Our dealings are in heaven;
Our life to God is given;
Our very heart and soul.
We journey in seclusion,
Despised and quite unknown,
Unseen mid the confusion
Of this land, not our own;
Yet, if this world pays heed,
It hears our voices ringing,
Songs of the homeland singing,
For which we yearn indeed.
--Zion’s Harp #185 vs. 9 and 11
"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." --Col. 3:2-3
Thoughts: The more we are 'dead' and hidden in Christ, the less troubled we will be by what goes on around us. If our thoughts and deeds are fully occupied with heavenly matters already in this life, the transition to heaven, when our time comes, will be so beautiful and natural.
On those rare occasions when the world gives heed to our lives, do they hear our voices ringing with yearning and songs of the homeland? Or does our conversation betray that we prefer to be citizens of this earth?
